The Salvation – Diamond Kapil K.C.

Seven feet tall, robust body, commanding voice, nimble mind, Jacob – the adventurer – looked no less than any kings. Led through the passion of discovering new places, he sailed across the whole globe and was renowned in the world for his courage and wit.

At his early 40’s, despite ferrying the whole world already, he made a mind to sail again to see if he could explore any noble place. He and his 20 companions, set themselves into a venture of discovering new land, sharing their experiences and humorous replies. After a tiresome yet enjoyable journey for 4 days, they experienced ferocious wind and swollen sea waves that capsized their boat and engulfed them, however, Jacob survived the catastrophe only to discover himself in a seashore separating the sea from a splendidly beautiful island.

Jacob was already tired and hungry when he walked in through the heavenly island that added surprise to his excited eyes as the island offered no people. He was leaning his shoulder on the coconut tree for a rest when he was dumbstruck to see a gorgeous lady wearing silk dress over her glossy skin, coming towards him.

She was so beautiful that she would shake down the decency of every men and as she approached him, she looked as if she belonged to a royal family. After a short conversation with her, Jacob discovered that he was at Erica Island and she also told her name to be Mili.

“Well, how did you manage to arrive here at this deserted island?”, Jacob asked curiously.

“I am an adventurer like you and I sailed here hearing about its history”, she replied.

“This isolated island has a history?”, Jacob was surprised.

“Thousand of years ago Borges was anointed as the King of this island following his father’s demise”, she began to elaborate. “Borges was unmarried and a beautiful girl named Misa in a bid to becoming a queen tried to woo him into marrying her but all her efforts went to vain when Borges married another girl.”

“Already drowned in the dreams of ruling the island, she felt humiliated by the King and she seduced the Hand of the King Rega by her beauty and pledged him that she would marry him if he killed Borges to become the new King of Erica. With a greed of becoming King, Rega conspired a war against Borges and became the new ruler after killing Borges and his wife.” Mili continued the tale.

Jacob would look at Mili’s appealing face with his loving eyes as she would tell the story and she would behave as if she had noticed nothing. The hide and seek went on.

“But Misa was utterly overwhelmed with the feelings of exercising power and she convinced herself that it was her destiny. Her obsession with authority made her so evil that she poisoned Rega to death to rule the island herself.” Mili took a deep breath.

Looking at her beguiling face, Jacob could not cease himself from expressing his feelings for her but she pretended as if she had not listened. Ignoring his proposal she proceeded with her story in a teary voice.

“After a month of Misa assuming the supreme position, Erica was hit hard by an epidemic that havocked all the people of Erica succumbing them to death, however, Misa survived it. As she was the only person alive in the island, she prayed God of Death with melancholy to take her life.” Mili silenced herself for a while.

“One day God of Death appeared in front of Misa and reminded her that nobody loved her for her deeds and also cursed her that she would remain alive alone in the desolate island until someone comes and loves her.” Mili finished her story with a heavy voice.

Breaking the silence Jacob praised Mili’s beauty and proposed her to marry him. She ignored with a smile and convinced him that she would consider his proposal next morning. And then they went for a sleep.

Next morning when the Sun rose, Jacob was shocked and scared to see a dead old woman beside him. As soon as he saw it, he rushed towards the seacoast. He stared at the island, recalled the story of Misa and God of Death, and looking at the corpse he silently called her Misa!!!
